Sandra will work to provide housing that is affordable to all members of the community. Many of our families see their children leave our town because they can’t afford a place to live where they grew up. The “trade parade” that clogs our roads each workday is partly the result of a housing market and zoning policies that force many of the teachers, hospital employees, and other workers who are the backbone of our community to live elsewhere and commute. We need aggressive programs to build more workforce and senior housing and to rezone for more intensive settlement in downtown areas.

Sandra will work with elected officials at the state level to make sure that hardworking families get their fair share of property tax relief. The recent reassessment by the current town government has left many members of our community unable to pay their property taxes, resulting in some people being forced to sell their homes and move out of the area. Future reassessments need to be handled in a more just and competent manner. 

Sandra will work to preserve what is left of our open spaces.  The natural beauty that is at the heart of our values and of our economy is threatened by overdevelopment and pollution, and we are losing the race to save it.  The Community Preservation Fund must be used to its full capacity, including leveraging purchases of crucial parcels of land before prices rise any further. The Town should work in full partnership with local organizations concerned with land preservation for the maximum advantage to both the environment and local agriculture.

Sandra will work to put unity back in community.  Many of our citizens—both longtime residents as well as recent immigrants and other newcomers—are feeling the challenges of divisions that have arisen in our community as a result of our increasingly diverse population. These challenges can be addressed by tapping our town’s tremendous reserves of good will, common sense, and practical intelligence. As your councilwoman Sandra will be an advocate for all members of our community, using her skills to reduce tensions, build alliances, and find solutions that unite rather than further divide people in our town.
